CCCC Employee of the Month!

May Full-Time Employee of the Month: Amy Bradbury

Amy Bradbury is an exceptional educator who demonstrates her vast knowledge and compassion for the Veterinary field each and every day. She teaches one of the most comprehensive course series in the program (Clinical Practices I, II, and III) and has found a way to make the content engaging and fun, while still holding students to the high standards necessary to ensure their success on the National Boards Exam and in their future career endeavors. Beyond this, Amy has a tremendous heart, and is always willing to lend an ear to her students (and colleagues) in need. Her thoughtful feedback, calming demeanor, and genuine kindness for everyone who walks through her door has affectionately earned her the nickname of "VMT Therapist." Amy is a true team player, never shying away from volunteering to assist or take the lead on projects and tasks with a can-do attitude. I am truly thankful to be able to work with such a wonderful friend and colleague.

Amy stepped up to act as a co-chair for the student chapter of NAVTA. With this role, she consistently assists with the organization and execution of various fundraisers, charity drives, celebration/award ceremonies, colony animal advertisement/adoption events, and swag designs/sales for the VMT program.

As a Certified Yoga Instructor, Amy also volunteers her time to offer periodic yoga sessions before or after classes. This has been a tremendous asset in assisting with students' emotional health, in what traditionally has been one of the highest-risk industries for mental health issues.

Amy is dedicated to quality education and student success. She stays late nearly every day, perfecting lesson plans and labs to ensure that they are of the highest quality.

In the Spring, she runs "Clinics" for the second-year program students, providing immersive practical experience into the daily operations of a Veterinary hospital. This provides students an opportunity to put all of their previously-learned coursework together, realizing their true potential as soon-to-be Veterinary Medical Technology graduates. Students demonstrate to themselves and their instructors their vast skills in numerous disciplines, such as dentistry, surgical assisting, anesthesia, radiology, medical lab skills, and professional client and colleague communication. The semester is always a hit, as students can see just how far they've come from their time as first-year students in the curriculum.

Amy also maintains contacts with several industry experts in various disciplines, as well as former graduates of the VMT program. Through these contacts, she is able to provide guest lecture opportunities from industry-specialists to answer questions relating to top-quality patient care, and enables VMT students to see the various routes of employment open to them after graduation.

Amy regularly steps up as the lead for various projects and tasks when the opportunity presents itself. Just recently, she volunteered to take the lead on creating a virtual New Student Orientation blackboard site, and providing supplemental NSO documents to assist incoming students with clarification of need-to-know and frequently asked questions. She is also assisting with the development of a site-report document for the VMT program's upcoming CVTEA site-inspection. Finally, I know I can always count on Amy to offer support and assistance for myself and my colleagues regarding revision of course and lab content. She frequently offers innovative and creative ideas to engage students and support student-learning, such as Family Feud, relay race, and scavenger hunt review games.

Amy Bradbury

Faculty Instructor in the Veterinary Medical Technology Department

How long have you worked for CCCC?
5-1/2 years.

What brought you to CCCC?
I was looking for a change, but I wanted to stay in this career. I saw that CCCC was hiring for a full-time VMT instructor and since I was a graduate of this program I knew this program was one of the best. I also looked at this as an opportunity to give back to the program that gave me so much!

Describe what you do for CCCC.
I teach the Clinical Practices series in the Vet Med program. I teach primarily second year students all of their hands-on skills. I also am co-chair of the student chapter of our national organization.

Part-Time CCCC Employee of the Month!

May Part-Time Employee of the Month: Robert Garrison

Robert Garrison is always willing to help his fellow co-workers and does so with a pleasant demeanor. A few weeks ago, Robert was headed to Harnett County to run the route as scheduled. During transit, the Business Services department was made aware that critical parts were needed for the Automotive program. Robert was asked to continue his daily route and additionally make a special trip to Garner to pick up two drive shafts. After leaving Harnett Main Campus, Robert headed to Garner to pick up the parts. When he arrived in Garner, he was told he would need to drive to another dealership for pick up. Robert returned to campus much later than his normal daily schedule and never complained about it. Robert went above and beyond to make sure the students in the Automotive program had the parts that were needed.

With Robert's previous work experience as a postal employee, he is an asset to the college mail-room. He is always willing to lend a hand to deliver packages, sort mail or whatever is needed.

Robert cares about his college family and is always looking for ideas to help improve the courier position. Although the route may not change from day to day, the packages he couriers definitely do. Robert has transported a variety of items for the college, from food for golf tournaments to dissectable cats!

Robert Garrison

Courier

We wrapped up our May Employee of the Month celebrations by surprising our part-time winner, Robert Garrison! Robert is one of our part-time couriers for the college. He stays on the road most of the week picking up and delivering everything from campus mail to last minute supplies required for our programs. We appreciate you, Robert, and the excellent customer service you provide your colleagues!

Team Building Day

A great CCCC team-building day was enjoyed by all. The "Dental Team" planned an outing with individual department faculty that otherwise may not have a support system.

The adventure started at Hammer & Stain followed by a fabulous lunch at Chapman's, all located in Southern Pines. It was great to be together as a team to reconnect, add new colleagues to our college family and enjoy the beautiful day.

Rats and Rabbits Are Here!

Rats and rabbits are now available. We have New Zealand White Rabbit females that are spayed, loving, and ready to brighten your day! Did you know that rabbits can be house trained?

Our Sprague Dawley Rats (male and female) have so much personality and are a true pleasure to interact with on a daily basis. We recommend adopting the rats in pairs (two males or two females) as they tend to be more social creatures.

All of our rats and rabbits can be adopted FREE OF CHARGE! Send us a message or call 919-718-7287 if you have questions!

If you're interested just send a message to our website cougarpets.org. Contact us on the Cougarpets Facebook page or send us a message at Cougarpets.org if you are interested in having one as a pet or want more details!

Job Corps Scholars Program

Exciting things are happening within CCCC's Job Corps Scholars Program! Please join us in welcoming our newest team member, Princess Lane, a Job Corps Scholars Personal Counselor. Princess will be assisting our team as we work to provide opportunities to students ages 16 to 24 who are seeking to earn in-demand, industry recognized credentials in 12 months or less. Welcome, Princess. We're happy you're here.

A few words from Princess Lane:

"Hi there! Some things to know about me are that I am a true Carolina girl, I enjoy the outdoors, reading on the patio, walking/hiking trails, and just exploring our beautiful area. I have a 65-pound spoiled black lab named T-Bone, and a wonderful fiance that I will be marrying in December 2021! I enjoy spending my free time lounging around with my little family, fueling my creative energy with artistic projects, and/or binging all the popular shows on Netflix. Some of my favorites are Criminal Minds, New Girl, and Girlfriends! I am also very excited to be part of the Job Corps Scholars Program here at Central Carolina Community College as a Personal Counselor. As a first-generation student myself, I know just how important support and encouragement are to one's success, which is exactly what I want to pay back and provide at CCCC! I am very much looking forward to meeting new colleagues and students, and building a community here!"
