COVID-19 Updates

Great Work by Health Faculty and Staff
I wanted to share some phenomenal news. Our Health Sciences and Human Services team pulled together to donate supplies to our community healthcare providers to assist them in meeting patient needs during the COVID-19 crisis.
I would like to thank Vicky Wesner, Consuela Blaizes, Beth Ryan, Melissa Fogarty, Lisa Matthews, Scott Hunt, Lennie Stephenson, and Denise Martin for helping to organize and deliver much needed supplies. Thank you to every department who contributed toward the effort. Our partners cried happy tears of relief to receive the supplies, and I know that I teared up delivering them.
I am so incredibly proud of our team for our dedication and innovation. I am inspired every day by how you have embraced the challenges of online teaching and in turn created rich learning experiences during this public health crisis. You are all heroes, and I am grateful to be on your team.
Thank you!

News From The Library
New! Virtual Appointments with a Librarian
Students now have the option to schedule a virtual appointment with a librarian for research consultations. In the Help & Contact section of our web page, go to Make an Appointment with a Librarian. Then choose “Virtual Research Consultations,” select a librarian, and finish completing the form. A librarian will then set up the video call consultation with the student via Blackboard Collaborate at the requested date and time. Please share this information with your students.
New Online Resources during COVID-19
The Library has access to additional free online resources as publishers and vendors have made their content available to help libraries during COVID-19. Students and faculty/staff can now find business, health sciences, and young adult eBooks, as well as databases to access articles in a wide variety of discipline areas including psychiatry, the environment, business, science, and more. You can find links to all of these resources in our COVID-19 Library Resources Guide. These resources are available for a limited time as a free trial. The guide also includes links to reliable COVID-19 News Resources, free streaming services, as well as resources for self-care and helping out. A link to the guide is available in the announcement on the library website.
Stress Relief Is Here!
In the COVID-19 Library Resources Guide mentioned above, be sure to check out the self-care section for ways to destress during this challenging time. Resources in this section focus on mental, spiritual, and physical health, as well as de-stressing activities, games, and puzzles. We will be highlighting some of these activities on our Facebook page leading up to finals week. Access the Self-Care resources now at cccc.libguides.com/covid19/self-care.
Faculty Support through the Library
The Library is here to support instructors during these last few weeks of the spring semester and beyond. Please contact Samantha O’Connor at socon214@cccc.edu for help in locating resources to facilitate the transition of assignments and readings into digital-friendly formats. Instructors can also access resources for transitioning seated classes to online at cccc.libguides.com/onlineclasses. Contact Samantha for online library instruction options as well.

Epithalamium by Jeanne Julian
Oh that old song.
That double pair of notes,
the first four of the Fifth,
familiar and strange as lilacs,
or lemons. Or looking down on clouds.
Or coming home. Marriage.
Why bother? We know how it ends.
But the original bedazzlement!
"When I went to put on my hat
I could not find my head,"
Beethoven's contemporary said,
who'd heard them new,
those sounds now marmoreal,
like your vows: "I will." "I will."
Four drops on an awning.
Waking, anticipating rain,
yet unsure which permutation
of water from the sky will come.
From that suspense the symphony travels
(the aged musician rasped in wonder)
"always from night to light."
Now, taking in and letting out the cat,
planting basil in a pot of clay,
riding a smooth train into Manhattan,
cooking an omelet, walking the flat rocks
where you first met,
may all be night to light,
as lightly linked as two notes in a hymn.

COUGAR PETS
Cougar Pets News
Cougar Pets are proceeding with adoptions for all of our animals who are already spayed/neutered. If the animal hasn't been spayed and neutered, then we notify the applicant that we will hold them until PPE resources become more readily available, and we can get the animal into surgery or we can suggest alternative pets that may have similar qualities for what they are looking for.
We are not able to host any meet-and-greets right now so we are doing adoption trials in home with pets that we think might be compatible but if they aren't a good fit for the household, then we can pick them up.
Meet Katniss
Katniss is a 5-year old, spayed female, shorthaired cat. She can live with other cats but doesn't really play with them much as she prefers to cuddle with people. When asked a little known fact about Katniss, one of the student's stated, "She is very smart." She will come when called and jump back in her house if asked nicely and rewarded with treats.
Meet Genie
Genie is a 4-year old, spayed female, mixed breed....possibly hound or english pointer mix. She loves toys of all types. One of the student's states, "If Genie was a character from a book or movie, she would be Marley from Marley and Me. She can be rambunctious and adorable, but she is a fun, loving, and loyal dog that is always guaranteed to bring a smile to your face." Genie will do best as the only pet in the household. She can be shy when she first meets you but warms up to be a big cuddle-bug!
All adoptable dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines. They have had regular dental cleanings, blood work, and physical exams. We pride ourselves on the care that our cats and dogs receive during their stay. Contact us at www.cougarpets.org for more information on our colony dogs and available cats.
