Professional Development/Holiday Luncheon
Thanks to Dr. Marchant and the CCCC Board of Trustees for the wonderful holiday luncheon held on December 17, 2012 in conjunction with the professional development sessions. The gathering of all campus employees was a great way to get in the holiday spirit and recognize many employees' years of service to our organization. What a great turn out and great fellowship!

2013 Distinguished Alumni Award
Nominations for the CCCC Distinguished Alumni Award are open! It is time to recognize CCCC alumni who have supported and shown commitment to the College and the community. Nominations will be accepted through February 28, 2013.
To nominate an alumni, simply fill out the packet found on www.cccc.edu/alumni. If you have questions, please send an email to alumni@cccc.edu.

Red Clay Review
The 2012 edition of Red Clay Review is now available. This year's literary magazine revolves around the theme of time and features poetry, prose, and artwork from members of CCCC and the community. An event will be held in January for readings and recognition of contest winners.
Entries for the 2013 issue are now being accepted. The theme for 2013's edition is food. Contributors can submit prose up to 1500 words, up to three poems of maximum 80 lines each, and/or three original images. Submissions must be made electronically.

CCCC Employee Wins Magazine Contest
Ronnie Measamer, Physical Plant Manager at CCCC, recently won a prize from the Electrical Construction & Maintenance Magazine for answering a question correctly about electrical codes.

CCCC Employee Writes Magazine Article
MontE Christman, Associate Director & System Administrator, for CCCC wrote an article titled, "Case Study: Central Carolina Community College Teaches Importance of Disaster Recovery." The article is featured in the Virtual-Strategy Magazine and details the importance of data protection, backup and recovery technologies.

The Pittsboro campus will be celebrating its annual Earth Day in conjunction with the 2nd Annual Rabbit Run and Children's Fun Run on April 13, 2013 and auctioning the Chatham Cottage! Please mark your calendars and come have some fun with us! http://www.cccc.edu/thechathamcottage/house/.
The CCCC Sustainability Committee has been working with CCCC faculty and staff to support all faculty in their interest in including sustainability topics in their courses. A collection of resources for sustainability has been created and is now available to all faculty and staff via the Intranet. You can find this resource by following the Instruction link under Helpful Files by Department. Is there room in your family and your life for a pet? Our candidates for adoption this month are worth considering. These animals, waiting patiently for permanent homes at the CCCC veterinary medical facility, are healthy, have all their shots, and have been spayed/neutered. They are ready to love you.

Dr. Pamela Jenkins

- Q. How long have you worked for CCCC?
- A. I started with CCCC on December 4, 2012.
- Q. What brought you to CCCC?
- A. I was drawn by the reputation of the school, the energy, and drive of the students, but most of all by the commitment of the faculty to providing the best education possible. I want to be part of that!
- Q. Describe what you do for the College.
- A. I am the Department Chair for the Nursing programs - both the Practical Nurse programs at Harnett and Chatham counties and the Associate Degree in Nursing program here at Lee County.
- Q. Where were you born?
- A. I was born in Denver, Colorado.
- Q. Where did you grow up?
- A. I grew up in Denver and loved all the seasons there, but must admit I do not miss all the snow and ice!
- Q. Educational credentials?
- A. I have a BSN from UNC (University of Northern Colorado!), MSN with a double focus (Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist and Adult Education) from Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Doctorate in Education from NCSU.
- Q. Where do you live now?
- A. I live in Chapel Hill, NC.
- Q. Marital status?
- A. I am married to Dr. Larry Jenkins, a national faculty member for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
- Q. Do you have children/grandchildren?
- A. We have three grown sons. Michael lives in Wilmington and is a free-lance writer, Tyler is a CPT in the US Army Medical Corps and completing his last year in his Internal Medicine residency, and Ryan lives with us and works for a security agency.
- Q. What are some of your hobbies or other interest outside of CCCC?
- A. I love all things sports, especially the Denver Broncos and the UNC men's basketball team. I am also an avid reader and enjoy trying new recipes from Food Network shows.
- Q. Anything else you'd like to share with the CCCC family?
- A. I am a retired Army Nurse and my husband is a retired Army aviator (he flew the patients from the battlefield to the aid station, aka DUSTOFF). We are proud of our service to the country. I am very glad to be here and have found every single person associated with this school to be warm and friendly. Thank you so much!

Bereavement Announcements
Emilie G. Marchant died Monday, January 7, 2013. A celebration of Emilie's life was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton on Thursday, January 10th, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Laurens County Humane Society, LCSCHAPCA, P.O. Box 964, Laurens, SC 29360 or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
Angela Lambert Martin-McLeod, sister of Thurlia Martin, Administrative Assistant for Adult-Ed & Continuing Education passed away on January 9, 2013. Visitation was held on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Calvary Baptist Church in Sanford, NC. The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at First Calvary Baptist Church. Memorials may be sent to the Breast Cancer Foundation or to the Salvation Army. Thurlia Martin would appreciate hearing from her CCCC family at: 2744 Cotton Rd., Sanford, NC 27330.
Perry White, 91, former CCCC trustee, died January 11, 2013 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC. White served as a Central Carolina Community College Trustee from 1985-1991. A memorial service was held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to St. Luke UMC, 2916 Wicker St., Sanford, NC 27330.
Martha A. Thomas, mother of Daniel Thomas, Director of Correctional Education passed away Monday, January 14, 2013. Visitation was on held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Adcock Funeral Home located at 2226 Lillington Hwy., Spring Lake, NC 28390. The funeral service was held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Moore Union Christian Church located at 4294 Buckhorn Rd., Sanford, NC. Daniel would appreciate hearing from his CCCC family at: 1360 Gregory Circle, Buies Creek, NC 27506.
