WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND CCCC
Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Siler City Center
Local, state, and college officials gathered November 16 at the Central Carolina Business Campus for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Siler City Center. Among those wielding shovels for the event were (from left) Bobby Powell, Board of Trustees Chairman; N.C. Sen. Bob Atwater, Chatham Provost Karen Allen; N.C. Rep. Joe Hackney; George Lucier, College Trustee and Chairman of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners; Siler City Mayor Charles Turner; Dianne Reid, President of the Chatham County Economic Development Corporation; and President Bud Marchant. The Center will enable the college to expand educational opportunities and workforce training for the residents of western Chatham County.
Chinese Art Exhibition A First for CCCC and Lee County
Chinese artist Yue'zi Lu (center) presents a painting he just created to President Bud Marchant for the college during the Chinese Art Exhibition hosted by the college Nov. 19. Guanglin Dai (right), program manager for North Carolina State University's Confucius Institute, looks on. Lu and four other faculty of the College of Fine Arts at Nanjing Normal University in the People's Republic of China, showed their traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy during the exhibition at the McSwain Center in Sanford.
Hands-on Learning at IPC
Perry Emmons (left), Telecommunications instructor, enjoys the reaction of Linda Carmichael (center), career development coordinator at Chapel Hill High School, and Victoria Dietrich (right), Lee County High School counselor, as they and other counselors and career coordinators see the analog signals created by the phones. The demonstration was part of the Networking and Telecommunications Technology Workshop, one of four programs featured at the college's 34th annual Information and Planning Conference November 13 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. Educators from schools in seven counties gathered to learn about educational opportunities for their students and graduates at the college. The 2009 event had workshops on the University Transfer/Associate in Science, Networking and Telecommunications Technology, Green Central Sustainable, and Business Technologies programs.
Scholarship Donors and Recipients Meet at Foundation Luncheon
Katie Renshaw (center), of Lillington, a Laser and Photonics student, had the opportunity to personally thank the Womble family for the Robert D. and Ray H. Womble Sr. Scholarship that is helping to pay for her college education. Katie met Robert D. Womble (left), retired Harnett County businessman, and his son, George Womble, CCCC Foundation president, at the Foundation's Scholarship Luncheon Nov. 17 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. The event brought together more than 200 scholarship donors and recipients.
Getting the Inside Info
Jamee Stiffler (left), Admissions Counselor, and Melissa Staley, Chair of the Math and Science Department, manned the sign-in table at the college's University Transfer Day on November 19. About 200 CCCC and Lee Early College students came to talk with representatives of senior institutions concerning what they had to offer the students.
