WOW! WHAT A TEAM!

CCCC Honors Employees at Circle of Excellence

Central Carolina Community College honored its Employees of the Year in several categories during its annual All Personnel Meeting April 27 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center.

Jamie Tyson, Huskins program coordinator and electronics instructor; Renee Dusenbury, reference and audiovisual librarian; and Dawn Harris, academic assistance coordinator, were selected for the honor by their peers at the college.

Each received an award plaque, one-year reserved parking space, and a $500 check from the local business sponsor of each award. They became the newest members of the college's prestigious Circle of Excellence and their names will be engraved on a permanent "Circle of Excellence" wall plaque at the college.

Jamie Tyson, of Sanford, received the Instructor of the Year-Excellence in Teaching Award. Wil Wilkinson, president of Wilkinson Automotive, Inc., in Sanford, presented her award check. She will now compete for the North Carolina Community College System's Instructor of the Year-Excellence in Teaching Award against instructors of the year chosen by each of the state's other 57 community colleges.

"I don't know what to say," Jamie said of her recognition. "I attribute this to everybody who helps make the learning environment conducive to learning. It's not just the teacher, it's everyone. It's an honor working at a place where so many people are devoted to promoting student success."

Renee Dusenbury, of Sanford, was honored as Operational and Support Staff Employee of the Year. Her award check was presented by Brian McLeod, Business Services Officer at BB&T's Sanford Branch.

"I'm very honored," she said. "It's an honor working at a place where so many people are devoted to promoting student success."

Dawn Harris, of Buies Creek, was honored as Administrative and Supervisory Staff Employee of the Year. Bill Wilson, of the college's board of trustees and a partner in Wilson and Reives Attorneys, in Sanford, presented the award check.

"I'm speechless," Harris said after receiving the award. "It's an honor, and I'm especially pleased to be honored for something I enjoy doing."

At the meeting, the college also recognized employees for longevity. Certificates were presented for five year's service and pins for 10-30 years of service.

Polly Bouldin, site supervisor for the West Harnett Center, was recognized for having been with the college 35 years. Gary Ennis, formerly an instructor at the Lillington Adult Education Center, who passed away in April, was recognized posthumously for 20 years of service.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND CCCC

100% of CCCC's First Dental Hygiene Graduating Class Pass Boards

The dental hygiene department is so excited to share the news that all eleven of their soon-to-be graduates have passed their National Board Exam!

This exam is a 9-hour test with just a 1-hour lunch break. They were the first to take a computerized exam instead of the traditional paper exam. These students have to pass this exam in order to practice dental hygiene anywhere in the United States.

However, in June of this year, they will also take a state level clinical test in which they will take a patient to UNC Chapel Hill and follow a rigorous routine of paperwork and cleaning teeth.

I would like for the campus to take note that these students have been pioneers for our college. They have been patient and diligent with their efforts to reach their goals.
