SANFORD - Golfers took their best shots at the Central Carolina Community College Foundation's 23rd Annual Golf Classic Sept. 19 and everyone came out a winner.

The 160 golfers enjoyed the great weather, the links at Sanford Golf Course, the camaraderie, and - for some - taking home a prize. The many sponsors of the event were winners for helping to make their communities and the college that serves them a better place to live.

"The biggest winners of all were the students who will be able to afford a college education at CCCC with the aid of scholarships that the Golf Classic helps fund," said Phil Bradley, CCCC Foundation Golf Classic chair.

The Golf Classic raised $36,000 for student scholarships and award programs that advance the mission of the college in providing quality education and opportunities for students and staff.

Forty teams of four players each participated in Captain's Choice tournaments in either the morning or afternoon. There were three flights in each tournament and first, second and third places awarded in each. However they placed, the golfers and team sponsors had a great time because it was for a good cause.

"We truly cannot thank our sponsors and players enough for their contributions to this tournament," said Emily Hare, CCCC Foundation associate director. "Without their invaluable support, the Foundation would not be able to provide financial help to so many students. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of our students and our community. "
