SANFORD — The 20th Annual Golf Classic of the Central Carolina Community College Foundation brought out duffers ready to compete for fun and fund raising.
The Golf Classic is the foundation’s biggest fundraiser. About $30,000 has been received so far from the Sept. 30 event at the Sanford Golf Course, with donations still coming in. In the last five years, more than $125,000 has been raised.
Funds raised through the event are used primarily to provide scholarships for students taking classes at the college’s campuses and centers in Chatham, Lee and Harnett counties or by distance education. The funds also help to sponsor summer technology camps for community youth and faculty training.
“We are so grateful for our supporters, particularly in today's challenging times when the college is experiencing declining public funding and rising enrollment,” said Diane Glover, foundation executive director. “The money raised will help serve those in need and will help advance the college's ‘Commitment to Excellence’.”
