SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training programs in Chatham and Lee counties recently graduated 28 cadets.
Eleven were presented diplomas during the May 20 graduation at the college’s Chatham Main Campus in Pittsboro. Seventeen received diplomas at the May 21 Lee graduation at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center in Sanford.
The cadets completed 624 hours of law enforcement training, including areas such as knowledge of laws, firearms, first responder medical care, and arrest techniques. They also passed a rigorous 12-week physical training program and a four-hour written comprehensive examination administered by the N.C. Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division.
"We are excited to have had graduations for both the Lee Main Campus and the Chatham Main Campus,” said Faye Phillips, BLET Training School director. “These individual cadets have done an exceptional job at achieving their goal.”
Those graduating in Chatham were Anthony Norton, Johnathan Moody, Robert Zajda, David Chestnutt and Robert Petty, all of Siler City; Brandon Kidd, of Pittsboro; Erik Mortensen, of Moncure; Jason Hensley, of Aberdeen; John Flynn, of Chapel Hill; Jesse Urban, of Durham; and Robert Miller, of Raleigh.
Awards were presented for outstanding performance during the Chatham graduation: Top Gun Marksmanship and Leadership awards - Robert Miller, Most Improved Physical Fitness - Brandon Kidd, Best Police Officers Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) score - John Flynn, and Highest Academic Average and State Exam Award - Jason Hensley.
Graduates of the Lee County Day program were Jordan Kyle Wall, Jonathan Matthews, Joseph Brewer III, Randall McGehee, and David Deshaies, all of Sanford; Jerry Dale Quick and Ryan Born, both of Broadway; Jason Clutter and Tyler Killman, both of Cameron, Harnett County; David Howard Stone and Leonard Joseph Scinta, both of Lillington; Ron Trombley and Jared Knowlton, both of Pittsboro; Ryan Sasser, of Mamers; Derek Holloman, of Erwin; Matthew Collins, of Siler City; and Josh Jones, of Fuquay-Varina.
Deshaies completed the BLET as part of an internship at East Carolina University, where he graduated May 8.
Awards presented at the Lee graduation were Highest Academic Average Award, Physical Fitness Leadership Award, and Jimmy J. Collins Memorial Top Gun Marksmanship Award - Tyler Killman; Best POPAT Score - Derek Holloman; Top Physical Fitness Award - Josh Jones; Most Improved Physical Fitness Award - Jared Knowlton; 100 Percent Physical Fitness Award - David DeShaies; Academic Achievement Award - Jason Clutter; Highest State Exam Award - David Stone; and Leadership Award - Ron Trombley.
The next sessions of BLET classes will be held in Sanford, Aug. 17-December (day class); and in Lillington, Sept. 14, 2009-April 2010, and Pittsboro, Oct. 19, 2009-May 2010 (both evening classes). For more information, call Phillips at (919) 777-7774.
