SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College and The University of North Carolina Wilmington have agreed to a partnership called the Pathway to Excellence Program.

The program is a pathway for guaranteed admission to UNCW for students completing an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Engineering with a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in transferable, college-level coursework from CCCC. Guaranteed admission to the university does not constitute admission to a professional school or specific program.

The agreement was signed by CCCC President Dr. T. Eston Marchant and UNCW Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli.

"We are delighted with this agreement, which gives our CCCC students an opportunity to move forward with their educational experience at The University of North Carolina Wilmington," said Dr. Marchant. "We are appreciative to Chancellor Sartarelli and UNCW and look forward to working together in this partnership."

Chancellor Sartarelli said of the agreement, "Obtaining a degree should be not just a fulfilling experience, but an efficient one as well. We want to help simplify the process by working with terrific partners like CCCC to support prospective and current transfer students, at every stage of their journey. This partnership will benefit not only the learners of today, but the workforce of tomorrow."

UNCW will provide a Transfer Student Success Advisor to meet with students at CCCC at intervals throughout each semester at the community college, working in collaboration with the CCCC advising staff to help students create a path of transfer and beyond.

UNCW will host CCCC students annually in an open house event. UNCW will provide an application event each spring on the CCCC campus providing application fee waivers to students applying to transfer.

"Students can meet their goals if we provide a clear road map toward completion," said Brian S. Merritt, Ph.D., CCCC Vice President, Learning & Workforce Development. "We appreciate this partnership with UNC Wilmington that will help us support our students and empower them to plan effectively for transfer opportunities."

Scott Byington, CCCC Dean of Arts, Sciences and Advising, added: "We are excited to strengthen our relationship with UNCW via this articulation agreement. We have many CCCC students interested in continuing their studies at UNCW and we appreciate the partnership with the university to make the transfer process even smoother for our students."
