CCCC Foundation adds two new board members

10.03.2015 • College & Community, College General, Foundation

SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College Foundation has named two former college trustees to its Foundation board - Margaret Murchison and Bill Wilson, both of Sanford.

"We are proud to have Margaret Murchison and Bill Wilson serve on our Foundation board," said Emily Hare, Executive Director of the CCCC Foundation. "They were both dedicated members of our CCCC Board of Trustees. In addition, they have been outstanding community leaders."

Mrs. Murchison served on the CCCC Board of Trustees from 2002-2006. She also has served on the Lee County Board of Education. In addition, she has served in various other leadership roles.

Mrs. Murchison is the only African American and female to have served as President of the North Carolina Associated Press Broadcasters. After stepping down as secretary of the Radio-Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas, she was immediately named Secretary Emeritus and afforded lifetime membership.

Mrs. Murchison is recipient of numerous awards and commendations, including the RTNDAC News Director of the Year (the award was later named for her and she was given lifetime membership in the organization), Outstanding Citizen Award from the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce, and the 2011 Sanford Herald Lifetime Achievement Award.

"The mission of the CCCC Foundation is close to my heart because it has and is making a difference in the lives of so many. Can you imagine how many students would have to drop out before completion if there was no Foundation?" said Mrs. Murchison. "I am president of the Council for Effective Actions & Decisions (C.E.A.D.), and the organization feels so strongly about CCCC and what it does for our community that we, too, chose donorship as a part of our community projects."

Mr. Wilson has practiced law in Sanford since 1977 and is a partner in the law firm of Wilson & Reives. He has been an active community volunteer over the years. Among the awards he has received are "Volunteer of the Year" from Gov. Hunt in 1993, and the "1996 Member of the Year" and "2002 Small Business Person of the Year" from the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Wilson served on the CCCC Board of Trustees from 1994-2014. N.C. Gov. Jim Hunt first appointed Mr. Wilson to the board of trustees in 1994. He was reappointed by Govs. Mike Easley and Bev Perdue for a total of five four-year terms. With 20 years on the board, he was one of the longest serving trustees in the college's history. During that time, he served two terms as board chairman, from 2004-2006.
