SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College's Phi Beta Lambda Chapter celebrated two major accomplishments during the fall semester.

Chapter members competed at the North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda Central Region Fall Leadership Development Conference, held Nov. 1-2 in Greensboro.

There, they earned Gold Star status for meeting chapter requirements set out by the national organization. They also brought home six first places: State and Regional Largest Chapter Membership, with 91 members; Largest Local Chapter Delegation at the Conference, both regional and statewide, with 32 in attendance; and Largest Professional Division Membership in the Region and State, with 15 members qualifying; as well as a second place in Recruitment Display.

On Oct. 24, CCCC's chapter held its fall induction ceremony and installation of officers, adding 80 new members. The 2013-14 officers are: President Oscar Hernandez, of Broadway; Vice President for Harnett Amanda Honeycutt, of Holly Springs; Vice President for Lee Vickie Nguyen, Secretary Ja'mielle Franklin, Treasurer Stacy Bradshaw, and Historian Caroline Nance, all of Sanford; Parliamentarian Kelvin Puckett, of Goldston; and SGA Liaison Monica Sagastume-Ceron, of Sanford. Guadalupe Norato, of Sanford, is vice president of the NCPBL Central Region.

"The chapter is off to a great start with currently over 100 members, the largest chapter in the state and one of the largest in the country," said Mike Fann, chapter advisor. "The members continue to bring a lot of energy, already completing three community service projects, over a dozen fundraising events, and attending workshops and conferences. I expect the chapter to be even more successful at our upcoming State Leadership Conference in the spring where last year the chapter took home more awards than every other chapter in the state."

Phi Beta Lambda is a nationally affiliated professional business organization for students, the college counterpart of Future Business Leaders of America. Since its establishment in 2006, CCCC's Phi Beta Lambda Chapter has participated in service projects, fundraising, and scholarly activities, as well as competitive events at the state and national PBL conferences. While primarily a business club, PBL is open to students of all majors.
