SANFORD - Honda-Suzuki-Arctic Cat (HSA), of Sanford, has been recognized by Central Carolina Community College' Motorcycle Safety Program and the North Carolina Motorcycle Education and Safety Foundation for its contribution to motorcycle safety through the N.C. Motorcycle Safety and Education Program's Motorcycle Loaner Program.

On July 3, Dwight Dixon, director of the college's Emergency Services Training Center, and John Smith, lead rider coach, presented HSA dealership sales manager Vann Gibson, F&I manager Daniel Baker, owner Lynn Barker, and controller Cliff Barker with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Dealer Recognition Certificate.

"Honda-Suzuki-Arctic Cat participates in the NCMSEP's Motorcycle Loaner Program," Smith said. "Without its support, the cost of attending a rider course would be more expensive for the student."

HSA has loaned the program one new CBR-250 Honda and two new TU-250 Suzukis, which are great starter bikes, Smith said. The dealership also provides low-cost labor and discounts on parts and motorcycles for the program.

Upon completion of the Bike Loaner Program, the NCMSEP purchases the motorcycles from the dealer at a substantial discount. This allows CCCC's program to continue to use quality motorcycles while keeping costs down. All major motorcycle manufacturers support the program by allowing the dealers to buy the motorcycles at a reduced rate and passing that savings on to the colleges, state, and, ultimately, the students.

Motorcycle safety programs are offered through CCCC's Continuing Education Department at the college's Emergency Services Training Center, in Sanford. The NCMSEP assists the programs by providing course material and instructors.

The instructors are certified to teach the following Motorcycle Safety Foundation courses: Introduction to Motorcycle Experience, Basic Rider, Returning Rider Basic Rider, Experienced Rider, and Advanced Rider. The programs promote and educate students on motorcycle safety and operation, teaching non-motorcyclists how to ride and experienced riders how to improve their skills.
