05.22.2008 • Foundation

LILLINGTON – Beautifully handcrafted wood furniture and a variety of metal items, such as grills and birdbaths, are on the auction block at the Central Carolina Community College Foundation’s seventh annual auction.

More than 70 items are available, from a handsome china hutch crafted from 100-year-old pine and other indoor and outdoor furniture, to a large storage barn and outdoor fire pit.

The public is invited to the auction, which takes place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, in the Multipurpose Room of the Miriello Building on the college’s Harnett County Campus, 1075 E. Cornelius Harnett Blvd., in Lillington. The viewing starts at 11 a.m.

Students in the college’s carpentry and welding classes at Harnett Correctional Institution created all the pieces. Proceeds from the auction go into a scholarship endowment for Harnett County students at the college. They also pay for materials for the carpentry and welding classes, which train the student inmates in marketable skills so they become contributing members of their communities when they are released.

For more information on the auction, contact HCI carpentry instructor Edward Taylor at (910) 893-2751, ext. 333, or foundation Executive Director Diane Glover, at (919) 718-7231.
