SANFORD - Take a walk down Central Carolina Community College's memory lane - you may run into yourself as you were 30, 40, or more years ago.

Re-visit your years at the college -even before it was a community college - through digitized versions of the institution's yearbooks, now available online in eBook format.

Were you part of that human pyramid shown on page four in the 1967 Cencaro, when the college was known as Central Carolina Technical Institute? Maybe you were one of the contestants in the Miss CCTI Pageant, shown on pages eight and nine in the 1975 Cencaro. Were you in that Field Day tug-of-war pictured on page 14 of the 1980-81 Cougar Tracks, when the college was Central Carolina Technical College? Enjoy bringing up some fond memories - and likely some laughs - by perusing these and the other yearbooks.

The yearbooks are available through the N.C. Digital Heritage Center Web site: http://digitalnc.org/institutions/central-carolina-community-college. The CCCC Library Web page, www.cccc.edu/library has a link to the yearbooks under "Online Resources - College History Collection." Digitalnc.org can also be accessed through a link at the college's Alumni Web page, www.cccc.edu/alumni under "CCCC Yearbooks Online."

The College's collection of yearbooks, now at DigitalNC.org, includes 1967-1973 and 1975-1980 Cencaros; 1980-81 to 1984-85 Cougar Tracks; and 1986 Impressions. Yearbooks from the college's Veterinary Medical Technology program include 1995-97 to 1998-99 and 2000-2005.

The digitized records also include a copy of "A History of Central Carolina Community College: the first forty years" by Avron B. Upchurch, retired executive vice president/chief academic officer.

"With our yearbooks and college history now preserved digitally and available online, we can share these resources with the community as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary this year and in years to come," said Tara Guthrie, CCCC director of Library Services. "Now everyone can enjoy a trip down the college's memory lane. The yearbooks will also be a valuable tool for our Alumni Association in identifying past students and growing our Alumni program."

There are some yearbooks not in the Library archives. Anyone who has a yearbook from a missing year can help fill in the record by letting it be digitized and added to the online collection. Contact Guthrie at tguthrie@cccc.edu or (919) 718-7245 for more information. The yearbook will be returned unharmed.

Guthrie worked with the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center at UNC-Chapel Hill to see that the yearbooks were made available online. The DHC is housed in the North Carolina Collection at the university.

Through its free digitization and online hosting services, the DHC provides libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, and other cultural heritage institutions with the opportunity to publicize and share their rare and unique collections online. It is supported by Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the State Library of North Carolina.
