CCCC holds Teen Medical Programs Camp

SANFORD - A Teen Medical Programs Camp, for youth ages 13 to 17, takes place at Central Carolina Community College's Lee County Campus, July 28-Aug. 1.

The camp is offered through the college's Continuing Education Department. The camp's focus is to introduce participants to some of the many careers in the field of health care. Sessions will provide information on each profession, how to be trained to work in those professions, tours of facilities, and some hands-on demonstrations. Certified instructors in each area will teach the sessions.

The camp runs 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the college's Jonesboro Center, 400 Cox Maddox Road, Sanford. There will be a two-day, off-site visit to Central Carolina Hospital and Sanford Health and Rehabilitation. Parents are responsible for transportation and pick up.

The medical programs discussed will be:

Nursing Assistant I - Provides direct patient care services. Listing on the state N.A. Registry is required for admittance to the R.N. and LPN programs at Central Carolina and other community colleges.

Phlebotomy Technician - Draws blood specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analyzing blood.

Pharmacy Technician - Works in a pharmacy under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Optometric Assistant - Works in an eye care practice under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist.

EKG Technician, EKG Monitoring Technician - The EKG Technician performs electrocardiograms as a supportive diagnostic procedure. The EKG Monitoring Technician recognizes and reports changes in a patient's heart rhythm in a telemetry or ICU setting.
