Congressman Bob Etheridge visits Give Kids A Smile at CCCC

Congressman Bob Etheridge (standing, second from left), of N.C.’s Second District, visited the Give Kids A Smile event Feb. 12 at Central Carolina Community College’s Dental Programs at the W.B. Wicker Center, in Sanford. The event was a collaborative effort of the Dental Programs, Lee County Dental Society, and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. Give Kids A Smile is part of the American Dental Association’s Children’s Dental Health Month in February. While at W.B. Wicker, Etheridge also learned about the college’s Lifelong Learning Center for adult education and WIA-Workforce Development. Congressman Bob Etheridge (right), of N.C.’s Second District, visited the Give Kids A Smile event Feb. 12 at Central Carolina Community College’s Dental Programs at the W.B. Wicker Center, in Sanford. Volunteer dentists and staff and the college’s dental assisting and dental hygiene students applied sealant to the teeth of Greenwood Elementary School first and second graders and taught them about good dental hygiene. The Give Kids A Smile event at the W.B. Wicker Center, in Sanford, brought together students from Central Carolina Community College’s dental assisting and dental hygiene programs, Lee County Dental Society dentists and their staffs, and Public Health dental hygienists from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. They taught first and second graders from Greenwood Elementary School about dental health and applied sealant to protect their teeth from decay. Among the event volunteers were (from left) Dr. Brian Smith, Sanford orthodontist, and Dr. Stephen Coker, Cary dentist, seen with CCCC President Bud Marchant. Dr Coker is the husband of Margaret Coker, CCCC lead instructor for Dental Assisting. Wendy Seymore, Public Health dental hygienist for Chatham and Lee counties, organized the event.
