SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College announces the filling of vacant positions for two directors and a department chairman.

Cindy Ramsey is the college's new Lee County director of Continuing Education. Angela Rivera, previously the evening campus supervisor on the Lee County Campus, has been promoted to director of Grants, Sponsored Programs and Evening Activities. Ty Stumpf, now chairman of the Humanities Department, served previously as the humanities lead instructor and interim chair of the Humanities Department.

Cindy Ramsey
Cindy Ramsey accepted the position of Lee County director of Continuing Education after serving almost three years as director of Isothermal Community College's Polk Campus.

While in that position, she also served on the College Council, Community and Workforce Education Council, and Academic and Student Learning Council. Prior to Isothermal, she was a publisher/writer/editor for Pender Publishing Co. and an adjunct English instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College.

"I'm excited to be a part of Central Carolina for both personal and professional reasons," Ramsey said. "Professionally, I am very impressed by the broad range of learning opportunities at the college and the progressive attention to improving existing and developing new programs to fulfill the needs of its service area."

Ramsey holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from UNC Wilmington. She is author of the non-fiction work, Boys of the Battleship North Carolina, which was reviewed on UNC-TV's "Bookwatch."

Among other organizations, Ramsey is or has been a member of the N.C. Community College Adult Educators Association, N.C. Humanities Council Road Scholars Speakers Bureau, Thermal Belt Outreach Education Committee, Pangaea (E-Polk) Board of Directors, and Foothills Economic Partnership. She is a current member of Leadership Sanford.

Angela Rivera
Angela Rivera, the director of Grants, Sponsored Programs and Evening Activities, has been with the college since January 2008. She served as the evening campus supervisor at the Lee County Campus and provided grant-writing support. In March 2009, she also began serving as the college's interim Lee County director of Continuing Education.

"Working with grants is like working with a puzzle - matching the needs of the institution with the funding priorities of foundations, institutions and sponsors," Rivera said. "Securing funding for projects at CCCC and former universities is my way of serving the students, administration, faculty, staff and surrounding community."

Prior to coming to Central Carolina, Rivera was involved in grant research, development, and writing for seven years. She served as director of Grant Research and Development at Pennsylvania State University, Mount Aloysius College, and, most recently, at Campbell University, where she secured a $1 million Kresge Foundation challenge grant for Campbell's new Convocation Center. She previously worked as a tourism director, teacher, and as executive director for the Harnett County Partnership for Children.

Rivera, an Angier resident, has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Belmont Abbey College, Master of Education from Regent University, and a Certificate of Non-Profit Management from Duke Continuing Education.

Ty Stumpf
Ty Stumpf, the new Chairman of the Humanities Department, started with the college in 2001 as an English and Humanities instructor. He has worked at both the Harnett and Lee County campuses.

"I look forward to working with this strong and dedicated department as we continue to serve our students and prepare them to be life-long learners," he said.
Stumpf, of Sanford, received his B.A. in English from Catawba College and his M.A. in English and creative writing from North Carolina State University. He has served as the editor of the college's literary magazine, The Red Clay Review, and as a co-advisor to the Rotaract Club.

Stumpf has been the treasurer/secretary of the Conference of English Instructors and a judge for the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association's annual literary magazine competition.
He is active in community affairs, having recently served on the board of Communities in Schools. He is the current chairman of the Lee County Democratic Party.
