Spring Activity Day a hit with Chatham CCCC students

04.01.2007 • SGA

PITTSBORO -- In spite of its benign name, the "Tiki Island" climbing wall warded off would-be scalers during Spring Activity Day at Central Carolina Community College's Chatham County Campus.

The inflated, 28-foot "wall" defeated most who tried to climb it, but even those who didn't make it to the top came down with smiles on their faces: the fun was in the attempt.

The wall was one of the activities at the April 17 afternoon event, sponsored by the campus' Student Government Association and designed to give students an opportunity to have fun, relax and bond with each other.

"It's a great way to relax from the stress of classes and hang out with friends," said associate degree student Heather Allen, of Pittsboro.

Some of the faculty also got into the fun.

"Activity Day is great," Emily Shepard, CIT instructor, said, even after being defeated by the wall. "It's a great way for students and faculty to interact."

The activity featured, in addition to the wall, a 24-foot inflated slide, bingo, caricatures drawn by artist Bruce Stevenson, of Raleigh, and lots of free food.

Craig DeShon, a freshman from Pittsboro, summed up the students' feelings about the last item with,  "I think free food is awesome!"
