During the 2012-13 school year, Central Carolina Community College's Sustainability Technologies students built and auctioned off this energy-efficient 450-square-foot house. Now, the college and community partners Small House Institute, Habitat for Humanity and the Abundance Foundation have launched an Affordable Small House Competition to increase the availability of small house designs. Amateur and novice designers are invited to submit their own creative plans for energy-efficient, attractive houses with less than 500 square feet. The contest is open to individuals, schools, and non-profit organizations, not experienced professionals. Prizes will be awarded for the winning designs. For more information, contact Laura Lauffer, CCCC Sustainability coordinator, 919-545-8032 or llauffer@cccc.edu.
