Electric cars plug in at CCCC-Pittsboro

Two Nissan Leafs fill up their batteries instead of gas tanks at plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging stations at Central Carolina Community College's Chatham County Campus, in Pittsboro. The charging stations are the campus's newest additions to its environmentally friendly features, including green buildings and sustainable programs. The public charging stations are among the first 12 that Progress Energy Carolinas has installed at various locations in North Carolina in a project to assess the need, cost and challenges of having a network of public charging stations and their possible impact on the electric grid.
