Dr. Matt Garrett was president of Central Carolina Community College for only four years, 2004-2008. He has been the only president selected from the college's administrators.

Dr. Matt Garrett, president of Central Carolina Community College from 2004-2008, had a 21-year career at CCCC. He jokingly said that, over the years, he had done almost every job at the college except mow the grass. He corrected that shortly before his retirement by mounting one of college's large mowers at the Lee County Campus and cutting a large swath of lawn.
