This Silverwood, Inc. home, in Pittsboro, is one of several green homes on Central Carolina Community College's 2011 Celebrate Green Central Home Tour Saturday, Oct. 15. The self-guided tour takes place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The homes feature green design, water saving strategies, renewable energy applications and creative re-use of materials. The Silverwood home features passive solar design, solar water heating, airtight insulation, and other energy efficient features. Tour-goers can pick up maps and see a description of each home at the Celebrate Green Central event, which runs 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the college's Chatham County Campus, or find them online at www.cccc.edu/green/celebration. The tour stops also feature food and beverage tastings from local farmers, vineyards and breweries.
