Central Carolina Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program in Harnett County graduated nine cadets in a March 21 ceremony at the college’s Harnett Campus. The graduates are (front, from left) Mark Tew, Phillip Bailey, Timothy Kavanaugh II, and James Ward; (back, from left) Matthew Hinson, Homer Ennis Jr., Harrison Gladden, Jonathan Coupee, and Billy Hull. Not pictured is graduate Matthew Johnson. The cadets completed 624 hours of law enforcement training, including areas such as criminal and motor vehicle laws, vehicle stops, first responder medical care, firearms training, driver’s training, sheriff’s duties, and subject control/arrest techniques. Each graduate had to pass all 35 blocks of instruction, a rigorous 12-week physical training program, as well as a four-hour written comprehensive state examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division. Trooper Jeffrey Smith, of the N.C. Highway Patrol in Harnett was the graduation guest speaker. He teaches BLET classes at CCCC and several other area community colleges and serves on the staff of the Basic Highway Patrol School.
