The college is celebrating 50 years of helping to improve the community and all those who have been part of our establishment, growth, and success since we offered our first class in 1961.
The community is invited to this FREE family-friendly event, which features a 5k run, kid's fun run, hot air balloon rides, sustainable learning opportunities, face painting, caricatures, storytelling, live music, bone marrow registration, games, food, and much more. Click here to see a more detailed list of activities.
The celebration runs from 7:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28th with a few scheduled events continuing on into the afternoon and evening. The event will be held at the college's Chatham County Location, 764 West Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
The lives of patients with leukemia, aplastic anemia, lymphoma, and similar diseases can frequently be saved with a bone marrow transplant. UNC-Chapel Hill's McLendon Clinical Laboratories, in partnership with BeTheMatch.org, will do a registry drive for potential bone marrow donors at Central Carolina Community College's April 28 Chatham Celebration. The drive takes place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Student Center of the Administration Building at the Chatham County Campus, 764 West St., Pittsboro. A quick swab of the inside of the cheek is all that is needed to have one's tissue type tested. From this, a person can be registered as a potential blood marrow donor with Be The Match, an agency of the National Marrow Donor Program. Potential donors must be between 18 and 60, be willing to donate to any patient, and meet the health guidelines.
